Planning a product shoot that serves every channel

One well-planned shoot can supply your website, marketplace listings, social media and ads. The secret is in the shot list.

Product shoots are often planned for a single purpose — a catalogue or a launch post — and then stretched to cover everything else. Planning for every channel up front saves time and money.

List the formats you'll need

Website heroes are wide, marketplace images are square on white, reels and stories are vertical. Write these down before the shoot so framing leaves room for every crop.

Build a shot list in three layers

  • Hero shots — the product at its best, clean and well-lit.
  • Details — textures, materials and features up close.
  • Context — the product in use, in a real environment.

Capture motion while you're there

Short video clips captured alongside stills give you material for reels and ads without booking a second day.
